PUNE: The Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) has sought land from Rural police and Government Polytechnic, Pune, in connection with the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metroproject.
Confirming that PMRDA has requested four hectares from Rural police and eight from Government Polytechnic in this regard, PMRDA chief Kiran Gitte laid emphasis on the need for land banks, which he said were essential to investors.
“Three companies have expressed an interest in operating the project on a public-private partnership (PPP) process, for which the tendering process should be completed by March 27,” he said.
The 23.3km corridor is the third line of the Pune Metro project, and is expected to cost Rs8,313 crore. It will make travel to the Hinjewadi IT hub easier and also improve connectivity to the city. Twenty-three stations are expected to come up in this section.
The parcels of land identified for commercial development are located at Pashan (Rural police) and Shivajinagar (Government Polytechnic).
Gitte said the proposal is pending with the home, and higher and technical education ministries. “The Urban Development Department (UDD) has forwarded the proposal to these departments. We have also assured Government Polytechnic that we can give them an alternative plot of land,” he stated.
In return for the land, in prime location, PMRDA said it can provide alternative plots of land on the outskirts. The decisions rests with the state government, but PMRDA is confident of a positive outcome.
