MIDC to speed up land records update process

Pune: The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has asked all its offices to complete the exercise of updating land records in the next two-three months.
The aim is to ensure establishment of ownership on the Record of Rights document. MIDC chief executive officer (CEO) Sanjay Sethi said the record update was an ongoing process and most of the work was already complete.

“If there are gaps, it will be primarily related to some records under litigation or missing land records documents. MIDC officials should sit with their land acquisition counterparts and speed up the process,” he told TOI on Thursday.

The land record update process was launched two years ago following the Bhosari MIDC land row involving then state revenue minister Eknath Khadse. The anti-corruption filed a closure report on Wednesday and a special court gave a clean chit to Khadse and others in a deal involving a 3.1acre land at MIDC Bhosari.

The MIDC officials said they would reconstruct the documents with the use of technology for the update work, while the GIS mapping was almost complete.

Approximately 78,000 hectares of land have already been acquired by MIDC and there are many land parcels with a huge demand for investments.
“The new records are not an issue. The old records, which are over 40-50 years old, are a concern for reconstruct if they go missing,” an official said. Once the update work is done, the MIDC has plans to keep in place parallel records and digitise the old ones.
According to its land acquisition procedure, MIDC identifies plots for acquisition. The plots are then screened by its land committee and recommended for acquisition to the government. The government then issues a draft notification for land acquisition, hears the suggestions and objections and issues a final notification.
