The Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd has some major plans in store for Aundh, Baner and Pashan.

The Smart City corporation plans to spend Rs 325 crore in one year and develop a 27-km smart street with free space for citizen initiatives, said officials. Besides, there will be four more placemaking sites coming up at Baner and Balewadi areas, they added.

The Smart City corporation, which has already planned a transport hub in Baner as well as e-connectivity for all the areas under the smart city mission, will start work on most of the projects from May 15, said Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd officials.

The Smart City corporation has undertaken a total of eight projects worth Rs 745.41 crore, of which, work on four projects, worth Rs 325 crore, will start immediately.

“Under the initiative of e-connectivity, the infrastructure for the same will be created in Aundh, Baner and Balewadi. Around 200 smart poles, equipped with close circuit cameras, a computerised system for transport and an information technology network for the bus rapid transport system will be set up,” said Rajendra Jagtap, CEO, Smart City corporation.

Plans are being made to also erect 35 wifi towers in Aundh, Baner and Balewadi. The project is worth Rs 420 crore and will be built on a build operate and transfer (BOT) basis.

Smart City also plans to introduce 100 e-buses on the 24 km BRT route. “At least 100 electronic buses will be purchased in the first phase, with 54 bus stations, and 100 e-rickshaws will help residents access the bus stops.

The proposed transport hub, which is to come up on 11 acres in Baner, will also be a Metro train station. There is a plan to start the BRT service through this programme. The project is about Rs 1,200 crore which can be completed in about two to three years. For this, a provision of Rs 1 crore has been made for the first phase of the plan.
