MahaMetro takes possession of 35 hectares of land for project
Pune: The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) has gained possession of nearly 90% of the land it needs for the Pune Metro project.
MahaMetro is constructing two of the three Metro corridors in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, and has taken possession of 35 out of 40 hectares needed, officials said on Thursday. “All the government agencies have been very positive in handing over required plots of land for Metro work. Active support of the government has led to (MahaMetro taking) possession of over 87% land so far,” an official said.
As per MahaMetro, 25% of the civil work on the Pimpri-Range Hills section and 15% of the work on the Vanaz-Civil Court stretch has been completed so far. “Work has been progressing at a fast clip in view of the impending monsoon,” an official said.
Of the 40 hectares, 37 belongs to various government agencies. MahaMetro has sourced the land from Pune Municipal Corporation, College of Agriculture, other government, defence and cantonment boards. The remainder — 3 hectares — is privately owned. Officials have expressed confidence of taking over the remaining 2 hectares of government-owned land too.
