PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation has extended the deadline for completion of the unfinished work of the last financial year by another two months.
The work can now to be completed by May 31, funds for which would have ideally lapsed on March 31. The extension would help in avoiding wastage of public money and reducing procedural delay.

The PMC standing committee has gone ahead and given a green signal for the initiative, which would be discussed at the general body meeting.

“The extension of deadline will mainly benefit ward-level work. Majority of this work is local in nature. If this work is delayed it will cause more problems for citizens,” said Yogesh Mulik, chairman of the standing committee.

“The elected members have been asked to submit a thorough list of work for which the extension is required. Allotment of funds for those projects will be done,” said Ulka Kalaskar, the head of Pune Municipal Corporation’s accounts department.

As per PMC officials, the process to collect applications is still underway. The exact amount and number of works requiring extension can be known only after a week’s time.

The works include road repairs, construction of different civic facilities and laying of pipelines.

The initiative will help in better utilisation of funds for the civic budget.
