PUNE: Pune district guardian minister Girish Bapat has assured 0.5TMC of water per annum for Wagholi and Pirangut areas through separate water schemes without affecting the water quota assured for the city or Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) areas.
The proposal was placed by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).
At a function held to mark the completion of three years of PMRDA, Bapat said that with the rapid growth in population and urbanisation of fringe areas and upcoming ring road and township schemes, water will be allocated from the existing water bodies in the area.
With a comprehensive water supply lined up for PMRDA area, a technical committee was appointed to decide on allocation.
“We will provide water to Pirangut and Wagholi areas by implementing experimental water supply schemes to these villages. Water will be used from river and existing dams and we will not draw any water from dams for Pune and PCMC areas,’’ said Bapat.
All available water sources will be tapped and the government will provide manpower and help with new water resources, besides recycling of water, he added.
