Mist, a queer collective dedicated to showcasing the best of queer talent in the arts, recently organised a three-day film festival for all cinephiles titled Out and Loud Pune International Queer Film Festival (PIQFF). The Festival had performances and panel discussions on the subject of ‘Acceptance’. “Out of an overwhelming 1615 submissions, we shortlisted 128 films this year,” said Sriram, who spearheaded the film selection team this year. “We received films from 103 countries, including countries like Iceland, Iran and Tunisia. This was way over what we received last year and we hope this trend of queer films multiplying each year continues.”
There were films like The Red Dress , Mum, I’m Back, (S)he, the Dua, My son is Gay, Something About Alex, The Masterful Hermit, Build a Boo, Aren’t We Here for Each Other?, Dad is Pretty and many more that were staged at the festival. There was also an interactive session with the community and allies. “We aimed to build stronger bonds within the queer community and with our allies by creating queer-friendly spaces where people can come together and learn from each other to build a world of acceptance and possibilities,” said Shyam Konnur, an activist and coordinator.
