65 medical establishments run by the civic body will be sending samples to these laboratories.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched firstof-its-kind programme by forming an alliance with Krsnaa Diagnostic Private Limited. Soon, high-end laboratories will be opened at two hospitals in the city that will coordinate with 65 medical establishments run by the civic body.
These establishments will have the facility to screen all kinds of tests that are available in the country. The charges for screening tests will be less than six per cent in comparison to the rates of the Central Government Health Schemes (CGHS). The centres will also provide free screening facilities to senior citizens and pregnant women.
The corporation currently has a facility of path labs and screening centres at seven hospitals in the city. However, due to dearth of staff, the services at these centres have been hit quite frequently. Therefore, citizens have to rely on private labs that charge exorbitant sums. The new path labs, however, are meant to rescue citizens from further inconvenience. They will be functional from April 11.
Talking about the initiative, Dr Anjali Sabne, assistant health chief, PMC, said, “There is a facility of path labs and screening tests at some PMC medical centres. However, we are getting complaints that there is a delay in receiving reports. As there is a staff crunch at the centres, we decided to open new labs. These labs will collect samples from 65 medical establishments and the reports will be given within a day.”
The high-end labs will be available at PMC-run Kamla Nehru Hospital and Sutar Hospital in Kothrud.
Dr Sabne added, “Although the labs will be high-end, the charges at the centres will be reasonable. The centres will provide free screening and lab tests to pregnant women. Infants till age of one year will also be given free laboratory tests. Even senior citizens will be benefitted by this initiative.”
Dr Sanjay Wavare, assistant health chief, PMC, explained, “The labs will be equipped with latest machinery and experts. Biochemistry, mammography, histopathology, among various other tests will be done here. Furthermore, PMC will also start a call centre where citizens can call and avail free home delivery of reports. This service will be available for patients in a critical condition.”
