PMC DOCS TO TRAIN FOR SKILL IN DELIVERIES
Ina bid to do their best and cut down the referencing of complex delivery cases to private hospitals the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC’s) health department has decided to handle such cases with expert doctors and faculties of BJMC and Sassoon General Hospital, which are run by the government. The programme aims to cut down the cases referred to other hospital as doctors will undergo special training to handle such cases. According to the officials, the programme will also cut down on the complications during deliveries and enable doctors to cater better to infants that need special care.
The programme, ‘Kushal’, funded by the Save the Children foundation as their corporate social responsibility, will start from April. The experts from the BJMC will provide special training to the doctors, nurses and paramedical staff of the 18 maternity homes run by the PMC. The staff will be trained to handle the complicated cases of delivery and provide the best neonatal care to infants.
“Currently the patients who develop complications are referred to the nearby tertiary care hospitals and once our own staff get trained such cases can be managed easily with the help of video conferencing.”
Dr Ajay Chandanwale, dean, BJMC, said, “It’s a welcome move in the interest of the public. Once we receive the proposal we will write to the government asking them to give us permission for the initiative as we cannot start it without the requisite permission. The video conferencing will be done from our hospital and will be helpful as there are huge number of specialised faculty who can provide the guidance.”
