PUNE: The airport will get 12 additional check-in countersby March 31, senior officials of Airports Authority of India(AAI) here said.
Pune airport director Ajay Kumar said that with new counters being added, the total number of check-in counters in the facility, which has been witnessing a decent increase in number of passengers each year, will rise to 44.

“The airport has been witnessing a steady increase in passengers every day and we too are increasing facilities for passengers. With increase in number of check-in counters, we feel that passengers will be at ease and check-in process will be faster and without any hassle,” Kumar told TOI.

He added that the number of self-check-in kiosks will also be increased. “We have been working on the project and by April 30 about 5 new kiosks will be available for passengers. This will increase the total number of kiosks to 8. Many passengers nowadays prefer self-service check-in and the increased number of kiosks will benefit them. There are some more plans which will be announced soon,” the official said.

Passengers have complained about long queues, especially in front of check-in counters. The survey by Airports Council International (ACI) on airport service quality had found Pune airport faring poorly in terms of waiting time in queues.
“The airport has seen an increase in number of flights and passengers. With air traffic from Pune growing at 30% every year, we have been adding facilities. There have been some concerns from passengers that they have to spend a long time in queues at check-in counters, particularly during peak hours early morning or late evening. Additional counters will reduce waiting time considerably,” another official said.
Passengers said that the plan was commendable. “Waiting in queues at the airport during peak hours is a pain. The staff members too need proper training and most of them are slow which increases frustration of passengers. If AAI is opening more counters and kiosks, it is surely good news,” Ashwin Dixit, a city-based entrepreneur said.
